Special Notes : This does not change the current Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) process for excused time off for chronic injury or illness or to care for an eligible family member. You still must follow the current Boeing process to apply for FMLA. Additionally, individual employee eligibility for Washington PFML benefits could be impacted by leave type. For example, an employee can't claim Unemployment Insurance or workers’ compensation benefits at the same time as Paid Family and Medical Leave. Steps Boeing Employees need to take to apply for PFML:
- Discuss your absence with your manager, reporting the planned absence up to 30 days in advance to the Boeing Leave Service Center.
- Call Worklife to report your leave of absence to the Boeing Leave Service Center (BLSC). Enter your BEMSID, and when the system asks, "Briefly tell me, how can I help you today?" say, "Leave Service Center," and have your Worklife password available.
- After reporting the leave of absence to the BLSC, you must also apply for Washington State PFML through the State's website.
- If you are eligible and approved for a leave of absence from Boeing and receive a Short-Term Disability Benefit, Boeing Payroll will reduce your short-term disability benefit by the amount you are eligible to receive from Washington State PFML. That means Boeing will subtract whatever the state pays you from what Boeing would pay you.
- FMLA and Short-Term Disability run concurrently with any state-provided leave.
